چکیده

The two numerical models applied in this paper are based on a time-splitting approach, where a prediction and a correction problem are sequentially solved. For both the numerical procedures, it has been shown that the prediction and the correction steps have the characteristics of a convective and a diffusive problem, respectively [2–5]. For these reasons, we call the prediction system "convective prediction" (CP) system and the correction system "diffusive correction" (DC) system. Let's assume a general system of balance laws,

Comparative Analyses between the Zero-Inertia and Fully Dynamic Models of the Shallow Water Equations for Unsteady Overland Flow Propagation

The shallow water equations are a mathematical tool widely applied for the simulation of flow routing in rivers and floodplains, as well as for flood inundation mapping. The interest of many researchers has been focused on the study of simplified forms of the original set of equations. One of the most commonly applied simplifications consists of neglecting the inertial terms. The effects of suc...

Numerical Aspects in Simulating Overland Flow Events

In this paper a comparative analysis of 2D numerical models for overland flow simulations have been performed; in particular they are based on the shallow water approach according to fully dynamic, diffusive and kinematic wave modeling. The systems have been numerically solved by using the MacCormack second order central scheme. The models have been tested, validated and compared using numerica...

A case study of flood dynamic wave simulation in natural waterways using numerical solution of unsteady flows

Flood routing has many applications in engineering projects and helps designers in understanding the flood flow characteristics in river flows. Floods are taken unsteady flows that vary by time and location. Equations governing unsteady flows in waterways are continuity and momentum equations which in case of one-dimensional flow the Saint-Venant hypothesis is considered. Dynamic wave model as ...

A simple and efficient unstructured finite volume scheme for solving the shallow water equations in overland flow applications

This paper presents the decoupled hydrological discretization (DHD) scheme for solving the shallow water equations in hydrological applications involving surface runoff in rural and urban basins. The name of the scheme is motivated by the fact that the three equations which form the two-dimensional shallow water system are discretized independently from each other and thus, the numerical scheme...

Two-dimensional model for overland flow simulations: A case study

This paper deals with the problem of flood generation and propagation at catchment scale. The main aspect of the work is the use of 2D fully dynamic shallow water equations as tool of analysis for spatial and temporal overland flow evolution starting from an observed or predicted rain input. The paper firstly focuses on the model description. The governing equations and the numerical integratio...
